The Board of Directors of the Worcester Educational Development Foundation, Inc. (WEDF) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2016 Dr. Lee Gurel Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Advanced Placement English. One student and his/her teacher are selected annually to receive these awards, endowed by Dr. Lee Gurel in honor of his English teacher at Woodland Street Preparatory School, Miss Wilmont.

Property owners can be fined $75 per day and/or assessed the cost of removal by the City if they do not clear snow and iceDo your part to keep sidewalks, curb-cuts, and ramps clear of snow and ice!

Congratulations South High Robotics Team

On Saturday, January 16th, the South High Robotics Club entered 3 robots in a tournament at Quinsigamond Community College. The tournament included 43 teams from around New England which competed in 63 matches. Two of South High’s robots made it into the playoffs. After 3 rounds of playoffs the team finished 1 and 2. As a result of being tournament champions, the South High Team qualifies to attend the State Championships in March.

You all have heard of the No Child Left Behind Act that brought many layers of accountability to schools and school districts. I refer to it, not because of what the act represented, but because of the powerful message behind the words "No Child Left Behind".

Congratulations to the students who won or placed in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay/Art contest and whose work will be on display at the Worcester Historical Museum from January 12, 2016 through February 27, 2016. They will be honored on January 30 at the Historical Museum beginning at 1 pm.
